Chapter 6

I feel like I am ready to explode. I’ve done the near on impossible and have managed to act the gentleman with Belle. The last few weeks have been easy with her. I’ve enjoyed every second of her company but I have got myself into a position I don’t know how to get out of. This is new territory for me and I don’t know how long I am meant to leave it. This is not me. Normally I know exactly what I am doing but this is not a normal situation. Belle is getting frustrated; I can tell. The intimacy between us has been kept light but I know she wants more. I want more but I don’t know what is stopping me. I feel as though if I give in then I am likely to slip back into my old ways. It’s stupid I know and unfounded. I haven’t been a saint these last few weeks. I can’t change that easily. It doesn’t come simply to me and some days I feel like I am fighting all of my natural instincts but it’s worth it. Belle is worth it. I’m not jumping into anything too fast which is what makes this all the better. It feels natural and I’ve been genuinely happier than I have in a long time.

As I drive into work my mind drifts off to the person who has been occupying it for the last few weeks. Last night I came so close to giving in and the little minx was no help at all. I took her out for a meal and she invited me in after I had walked her to the door. I should have known she was up to something but sometimes those innocent eyes beguile me. I don’t know how I kept my restraint when she was clearly showing me she was willing and more than happy for more. Maybe I should relent. It feels like it is time. I could take her away for the weekend to make it special. Neither of us are virgins, the mere notion is ridiculous but I want this relationship to be different than any other I’ve had before. We haven’t exactly made anything official but I have been true to my word and not kept it a secret in work. We’ve stuck to being professional within the office hours but I don’t want to hide and I don’t want what is developing between us to be tainted in any way.

I reach my destination and like the day before and the one before that, I am actually looking forward to what it has in store for me. I enter the sparsely filled office and head straight for the kitchen. I have taken to making Megan coffee when I know I will be in before her. It’s a simple gesture but I have learned it does go a long way. Once I complete my first task of the day I place the mug of coffee on Megan’s desk before I enter my office.
